Welcome to the Forge, a new energy-driven game mode and event where you need to complete quests by merging items. The Forge events are occasional — to get started, keep up to date with our in-game announcements to know when the next one starts, or follow us on social media (Discord, Facebook).
TL;DR:
Board and Quests
In this game mode, you need to complete quests by turning in certain items. To get these items, you need to generate them by spending energy.
Items can be of different types:
-
Regular items. Merge these to create more advanced items that you need in quests! Get those items from generators.
-
Enwebbed items. You can’t move these, but you can merge regular items with them. These items can be found on the game board when the Forge starts.
-
Locked items. These items can’t be used in any way until you unlock them with energy. Do so in time, otherwise they will perish! These items have a random chance of appearing when you merge other items.
-
Generator Items. Tap these to generate new regular items! Each tap costs 5 energy. Some generators are infinite, some disappear or downgrade after they’re out of items.
Quests grant gold, other items, Steel Pass points, and, in later stages, legendary souls.
Shop and Kits
There is a quicker way of getting items — visit the shop, where they can be purchased for gems or energy. Or you can take a look at Kits to purchase items and/or energy.
Items acquired in the Shop, in Kits, or for quests are stored in your Stash above the Fight button.
Rewards
Besides quests granting gold and legendary souls, you can unlock extra rewards in the Steel Pass.
Game Board
The first thing that we see is the game board. It contains items that you need to either turn in for quests or merge until you get the desired items.
Merge!
Drag and drop an item to merge it with another item of the same type.
Merging items provides the next item in the merge chain. You can see how each item is made by tapping the (i) icon on the right side pane with the item’s description.
Generators
Since you merge two items into one, you will eventually run out of them. That’s where generators come in: these items can create new items! All you need to do — tap the generator!
Tapping a generator spends 5 energy.
Generators are granted at the start of the game, from quests, in Kits, and in the shop.
Generators have an item limit. When they run out of items, they can either go into cooldown, be destroyed, or downgrade into another item. The behavior depends on the item itself.
When you merge items to create a generator, it also goes into cooldown. You have the option of skipping the wait and using energy to speed up the cooldown process.
Webs
When you first enter a new Forge event, you will see a lot of enwebbed items. These can’t be moved, but you can still interact with them. Just merge an item into the enwebbed one!
Locks
Sometimes when merging items, you will see two items appear instead of one. The second item will have a lock on it. This is an opportunity for you to skip some of the grind — you can unlock that item by spending some energy on it.
If you don’t unlock the item until its timer runs out, it will disappear.
Locked items appear randomly when you merge other items.
Dismiss an Item
You can delete any regular item from the board and get a bit of gold in return. To do so, select it, then tap the trashcan icon on the right side pane with the item’s description.
Item Stash
When you gain items from quests, Kits, or the Shop, they appear in your Item Stash. Tap on it to pop an item from it onto the game board.
Quests
On the left-hand side of the screen, you can find quests.
Heroes are requesting your assistance — provide them with the items they are requesting and receive the rewards.
When you have an item that is used in one of your active quests, its cell glows green.
When you have all the required items for a quest, you can complete it: tap “Complete”, and the items will be removed from your board in exchange for the promised reward.
If a quest grants you items, they go to your Item Stash. You can immediately place them on the board, or keep them there until the time is right.
Shop & Kits
Got a difficult quest? There is a way to skip merging — swing by the shop!
Here, you can exchange a small sum of gems or energy for items. Alternatively, you can visit Kits and see if they have any items on offer. They also usually stock up the ever-valuable energy!
When you purchase items at the shop or in Kits, they go to your Item Stash. You can immediately place them on the board, or keep them there until the time is right.
Steel Pass Rewards
Completing quests grants you Steel Pass points. Steel Pass is where you can find very rich rewards.
Tips & Tricks
Generators on cooldown
There is a time management aspect to this feature. Ask yourself: will you come back to the game soon enough after the cooldown is up? If the answer is “no”, you should probably consider skipping the cooldown. Provided that you have enough energy and will have enough to generate the items!
Pivoting
Sometimes quests lead you to pivot to an item type that you are completely unprepared for: you were farming hourglasses and barns, while the quest is asking you for swords. You can pivot, but swords are costly in terms of field space. You can do two things:
-
Clear up some of the existing items. This will reduce your potential to complete new quests, but it will pay out some gold in return.
-
Visit the Shop or Kits. These can greatly help you skip some part of the merge chains or circumvent them entirely.
Clutter
Sometimes you may find your field filled with items that aren’t used very often. For example, you made too many shields, and now they lie there a dead weight.
You can deal with these items by deleting them — every time you do that, you gain a bit of gold. Prioritize merging items before deletion, as two lower-level items will grant less gold than one higher-level item.
